Test your Site on Safe Browsing Site Status

Couple of days ago, I noticed a sudden fall in my sites traffic. It was not clear why Marks PC is experiencing a decreasing traffic. Later I discovered a harmful content in my site. Thats why Google Chrome was stopping visitors to enter my site. Then I fixed the issue with the help of Google Safe Browsing and Webmaster Tools. In this post, Im gonna share my experience with you . . .

About Safe Browsing Site Status

Safe browsing site status is a part of Google Transparency Report. Everyday it collects and examines billions of URLs to find out harmful contents on those websites. If a site is safe to surf then its okay.

But if harmful contents are found, Google enlists the sites in blacklist. And Chrome browser shows warnings to the visitors.

Check your Site

You can check any site on Safe Browsing Site Status. It maybe your own site or any other site you visit often. So, what are you waiting for? Lets check a site on Google Safe Browsing Site Status . . .

Then you will get following view -

Here you can see a search box named Status of. In this box, you will enter the link of your desired website. As soon as you hit the search button, you will see the current status. If the site is okay, you will see - Not Dangerous.

If any malicious contents are found, you will see the status like dangerous or harmful.

Taking Actions

If youre a site owner and find your site dangerous, dont delay a second. Immediately go to the Google Webmaster and sign in there. There you will get a message for critical issues.

Sometimes you may know what is the problem exactly. Then fix it and inform the Google Webmaster that necessary actions have been made. Then you will request a review for your site.

If youre not sure about the problem, then talk to the experts. Or sometimes this problem might be caused by harmful ads shown on your site. In that case, you need to talk to the Advertisers.

And never avoid this issue. If you avoid it, then your traffic will fall dramatically. And you will lose revenues.

After taking corrective actions, Google will review your site. Within few hours (not more than 48 hours) Google will update your security status.

Tutorial on Goal Seek Project File Included

Goal Seek helps you to find a specific target from a given data. Suppose you are required to adjust either cost or price or production unit to make a certain amount of profit. In this situation, you can use Goal Seek to find out the optimum level of input to meet your target. Here you must know that the Goal Seek can only work with a single variable.

Note: This tutorial is prepared on Excel 2013. Excel 2007 and 2010 will be much similar to version 2013.

Example 1

Lets start by a simple example. Go to Excel > Open a Blank Worksheet > Input the data as shown below:

The red figures are negative values.

Input the figures in Sales for Product A, B and C.

Enter Cost of Goods Sold in the next row.

Deduct 3rd row from 2nd row to find out the Gross Profit. (i.e. =B2-B3)

Enter the other expenses in the 5th row.

Deduct expenses from Gross profit to find Net Profit. (i.e. =B4-B5)

Important: you must find out the Gross Profit, Net Profit through formula. Otherwise, the Goal Seek function may not work.

At the 6th row, we get the Net Profit for Product A, B and C as 250000, 180000 and 195000 respectively.

Problems & Solutions

In this settings, how can we increase the Net Profit of Product C from 195000 to 200000?

Ans: You can either increase sales, or decrease COGS and other expenses. But you have only one choice. Choose any of the three variables what you are supposed to change. Suppose, you have to change COGS. That means, cell D3. Use Goal Seek as follows:

Select the D6 cell. Move to the DATA tab > What-If Analysis > Choose Goal Seek.

Make sure that the Set Cell box contains D6.

Type 200000 in To Value box.

Click on the By changing cell box and choose D3 from the worksheet. Then it will be automatically converted to $D$3.

Hit OK > You will get the following result -

This example is easy to calculate. You can find the result through manual process. Now I would like to move to the more complex example.

Example 2

Go to Excel > Create a new worksheet. Input the data as shown below:

Input the price of finished goods in B1.

Per unit variable cost in B2.

Enter the total number of units produced in B3.

Get total variable cost by multiplying variable cost and total unit (=B3*B2).

Enter the fixed cost as given.

Multiply price with total number of units produced to find out Revenue (=B3*B1).

Deduct fixed cost and variable cost from revenue to determine profit (=B6-B5-B4).

In the above example, the profit is 3000. How to make it 5000?

Well, you may have several choice as:

Changing the price

Reducing the variable cost

Increasing the production unit etc.

Suppose, you have no way to reduce the cost or increase the production. In that situation, you can only adjust the price. Lets raise it through Goal Seek . . .

Click on the cell B1
Move to Data > What-It Analysis > Goal Seek
Set Cell B1
To Value 5000
By Changing Cell, choose B1 ($B$1)
Hit OK > Finally Get the following result -

Within wasting much time, you can calculate the optimum product price to earn your target profit. You just raise the price by .40 to increase the profit from 3000 to 5000. Similarly, you can also adjust variable cost or production unit. But you cant work with more than one variable at a time.

Unlock iPhone OS 4 Beta on iPhone 3G with ultrasn0w

after the jailbreak of iPhone OS 4.0 BETA has been released and the subsequent update of Fuzzyband (baseband downgrader), it seems that the release for the 3.1.3 and higher jailbreak and unlock is just around the corner.

But first we have to be contend with the jailbreak and now the unlock of iPhone OS 4 Beta on iPhone 3G.

according to the post below, technically iPhone OS 4 Beta on iPhone 3G is unlockable.

here are the details.

Now that we have a jailbreak (developers only) for iPhone OS 4 Beta, and an upgraded version of Fuzzyband (Baseband downgrader). Technically, iPhone 3G can now be unlocked on the latest iPhone OS 4 Beta, provided that you have one of those rare iPhone 3G’s with 05.08 bootloader that is downgradable to 05.13.03 baseband of OS 4 to 04.26.08 so that ultrasn0w can unlock it.

NOTE: I haven’t tested this on my iPhone 3G. This is only for iPhone 3G with 05.08 bootloader. Proceed only at your own risk.

Step 1: First follow the complete step by step guide posted here to jailbreak iPhone 3G on iPhone OS 4 Beta firmware.

Step 2: Using Fuzzyband, downgrade your baseband 05.13.03 to 04.26.08. Step by step instructions for downgrading baseband can be found here.

Step 3: Now start “Cydia” on your iPhone and touch on “Manage” tab on the bottom. Now touch on “Sources” as seen in the screenshot below:

Note: T-Mobile users should disable 3G before installing ultrasn0w.

Step 4: Touch on “Edit” and then on “Add”. You will be prompted to enter a url source as seen in the screenshot below. Type “http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com” and touch on “Add Source”

Cydia will now automatically update your sources by following a series of automated steps.

Step 5: Once the repository has been added successfully, Search for “ultrasn0w” in Cydia and install this application.

Step 6: Now simply restart your iPhone.

If all goes well, you should now have an unlocked iPhone 3G running on iPhone OS 4 Beta.

In my previous post, I discussed about how to lock or freeze column headers. By freezing rows or columns, you can just show headers at the time of scrolling. But they will be printed on the first page only. In this tutorial, you will learn - how to print same column headers on every page automatically . . .

MS Excel 2000/ XP

MS Excel 2007/ 2010/ 2013

Note: This tutorial has been prepared using Excel 2013. So, few options may differ slightly.

Lets start -

Open a previously saved worksheet or create a new one in MS Excel.
Go to the Page Setup option from Page Layout Tab (Office XP/ 2000 users should find it under Edit Menu).
Go to the Sheet tab from Page Setup.
Look at the Print titles option: Rows to repeat and Columns to repeat.
To repeat the headers at the top, click on the first one. Or click on the second one to repeat the columns.
After clicking the box, select the area of your sheet which needs to be repeated. Follow the image below.
Hit OK to close the Page Setup. Done! Now check by printing or look at the print preview.

Here I showed the process for rows only. You can also choose columns to repeat by the same way. And Ive also uploaded a same sheet for you. Download the sheet from the link below:

Installing Unknown Source Apps on Android

Enabling Unknown Source Apps on Android Device

Well, you may experience this sort of problem with a newly purchased Android Phone or Tablet. For security reason, by default, installing apps from unknown sources are normally disabled in Android devices. But you can easy install those apps on your phone if youre confident about the security. Lets see how . . .

Before you proceed, you should know . . .

Android OS prefers installing apps from Google Play due to the security reasons. But sometimes you may need to install apps which are already stored on your phone storage. And that time your system may not allow you install such apps rather show the following message -

Install Blocked
For security, your phone is set to block installation of apps obtained from unknown sources.

Look at the above image. It also offers a Settings option. If you wanna change this settings, simply hit on the settings button and allow unknown source apps.

Allowing Unknown Source Apps

You will get the above settings option when you try to install a new app from your phone storage. But if you wanna change this settings before installing any app (just to avoid this message) then you can try the following method -

Go to your phones settings option.
Move to the Personal > Security > Device Administration > Unknown Sources > Allow it.
Now you will get a security Warning. Simply hit the OK button. Thats it.

About the Warning

When you enable unknown apps installation, you will get the following warning message -

Your phone and personal data are more valuable to attack by apps from unknown sources. You agree that you are solely responsible for any damage to your phone or loss of data that may result from using these apps.

It seems that its a serious issue. But it isnt actually. You can install application from unknown sources without any trouble. But make sure those APK files are not harmful.

Load Atheros GbE AR8161 LAN drivers on CentOS 6 4

Atheros GbE (AR8161) LAN is still not supported on the major Linux distributions which makes it really annoying to fix since most solutions require installing kernel-dev, gcc, perl, and many other dependencies. After a lot of trial and error, I finally found this simple procedure for getting ethernet to work on CentOS 6.4:

1. Download kmod-alx and save it to a thumb drive

2. Insert thumbdrive into CentOS computer, double-click the thumb drive icon on the desktop to mount it, and then open a terminal (Applications > System Tools > Terminal)

3. cd /tmp

4. cp /media/THUMBDRIVE/kmod-alx-0.0-7.el6.elrepo.x86_64.rpm .

5. sudo rpm -i kmod-alx-0.0-7.el6.elrepo.x86_64.rpm

6. sudo modprobe alx

7. Open Firefox browser and verify you have internet connectivity

Instruction

Run PowerPoint from your PC.
Open a previously generated presentation or create a new one.
Go to the Insert tab > Move to the Header & Footer option under Section area.
Mark the Slide Number checkbox. If you dont need number on the first slide then also mark the option - Dont show on title slide
Choose Apply to All. Thats it!

Now the slide number will be added in a suitable position. If your theme has a special location for slide number, then it will be automatically added there.

Lets consider the Wisp theme -

Look at the upper left corner. The dark red are with the number 1. This is the location of slide number in wisp theme.

You will find this feature in some other themes too. And the themes which dont have such location, the slide number will be added to the bottom right corner.

Jailbreak iPhone 3GS on OS 3 1 3 with Spirit Untethered

As we have already reported, Spirit – the untethered userland jailbreak for iPhone 3.1.3 and iPad 3.2 has finally arrived. For the end user, Spirit looks and works very much like Geohot’s blackra1n, and is available for both Windows and Mac OS X.

Using Spirit, you can jailbreak (not unlock) all iPhone’s (iPhone (Edge), iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS) and iPod touches (iPod touch 2G and 3G) running on the firmware version 3.1.3/3.1.2, and iPad and iPad 3G on firmware 3.2 – untethered.

Note for iPhone 3G and 3GS Unlockers: Do NOT upgrade to the stock iPhone 3.1.3 if you you want to keep your unlock as doing so will result in upgrade of your baseband, which will make it almost impossible for you to unlock. This is strictly for those who are either on official supported carrier like AT&T, or have already upgraded to 3.1.3 and are stuck with it.

IMPORTANT: Make sure that you have your SHSH files saved. You can jailbreak without saving SHSH files but you wont be safe once Apple patches the exploit used by Spirit. Follow the instructions posted here to save your SHSH blobs.

The following guide will help you jailbreak iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS (all versions) untethered on the latest iPhone OS 3.1.3.

Step 1: Download and install the latest version of iTunes (download link given below).

Step 2: You will need to be on the official iPhone 3.1.2, or iPhone 3.1.3 firmware on your iPhone. Download links for iPhone OS 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 are given at the end of the post.

Step 3: Download Spirit for Windows or Mac (download link at the end of the post).

Step 4: Run “Spirit” and then Click on “Jailbreak”:

Note for Windows 7/Vista Users (OS X users should skip to Step 5): Change the “Compatibility mode” to “Windows 98 / Windows Me” by right clicking on “Spirit.exe”, and then click on “Properties”. This can be seen in the screenshot below. [Thanks to xeon82 for this tip via twitter]

Also check: “Run this program as an administrator” option on the same window.

Step 5: Let the app do its thing and wait for the app to show “Jailbreak Complete!” message. At this point, wait for the iPhone to automatically reboot.

Step 6: Voila! You should now have a fully jailbroken iPhone 3G/3GS running on firmware 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 – Untethered !.

Complete Tutorial on Facebook Open Graph

Facebook Open Graph allows you to use custom site title, URL, description and even a custom image when you share your page. If you use Facebook Open Graph code on your site, every time when you share any page, it will be counted directly for your home page. Suppose, if I share the following URL on Facebook -

The sharing/ like will be counted for -

http://www.markspcsolution.com/

But If there is no open graph code on my site, the sharing of the first URL will be counted individually. And the sharing will not be counted for your home page. Now I guess, youve understood the importance of open graph. Its really helpful to increase facebook likes of your site rapidly.

Couple of days ago, I discussed about how to claim a site on Facebook. Following the same method, you can place Facebook Open Graph code on your site. Open graph code is as follows:

You have to place the above code in the head (<head> </head>) section of your sites HTML. The code must be placed before closing head tag - </head>.

Now follow the steps below:

Go to Facebook Insights > Domain Insights > Add your Domain
Type your home page URL > Copy the Numeric FB ID > Keep the window open
Go to your sites code or HTML and find the closing header tag </head>
Place the above code before closing header tag
Now back to the Facebook Insight Page
Hit on the Get Insights button
Now you should be able to see your domain under the Domain Insights section

There are 7 meta properties in the above code. You have to change in the content option. Make sure youve used them properly. Im gonna clarify the points -

Site Title Example - Marks PC Solution.
Site Description - Whats your site about. Example - Your Ultimate Choice for Computer, Internet, Blogging, SEO & PC Troubleshooting Tips!
Content Type - Website/ Blog/ Article/ News etc.
Site URL Example - www.markspcsolution.com
Custom Image - Upload your desired image in a server. Then simply copy and paste the link here. You can use postimage.org to upload image.
Type your Site Title here. Example - Marks PC Solution.
Numeric FB ID that youve got from the 2nd step in Facebook Insights Page. You can also find numeric by this method.

Troubleshooting

If you face any problem after implementing the code on your site, you can take help of Debugger. Here you can paste your site URL and debug the errors. You can check whether all properties are functioning normally or if there is a problem.

Remember, you can omit some properties. If you use Custom Image, then it will be same for any link of your site. So you can also use a shorter version of the code as below:

<meta content=Website property=og:type/>

<meta content=http://www.example.com/ property=og:url/>
<meta content=100002127563096 property=fb:admins/>

It will do the same job for you. You can also use multiple Admin IDs. Simply add more numeric IDs in the admin property.
